Mont Ventoux road trip day 1 12th Sept

The day or rather early morning 0430, has arrived. Starting this account sitting in Wetherspoons air side at John Lennon airport with my companions in this adventure Andrew Cockayne and Fraser Welsh. Surrounded by scouser hen and stag parties getting an early start on the booze!
The flight, booked on CheapoAir is due to depart for Nimes at 0640.
Well done Ryanair on time and a good flight!
As we headed outside to meet Craig from Veloventoux cycling tours it was evident that we were not alone on our wee adventure, a party from Stoke were also waiting to be picked up about a dozen of us all together. Once everything was loaded on the mini buses we headed for Faucon and VV HQ.
Andrew, Frazer and I were given an apartment that slept three on two levels. After unpacking we headed out to the courtyard to check out our steeds for the challenge. Fraser had a Scott CR1 triple with toe clips. I was on a Pinarello compact and Andrew was on a Lapierre triple.

We headed out into the noon sun. The route took us into Bais les Baronnies where we stopped for a drink and an ice cream.

Some carb loading.

Then onwards and upwards to Propiac, where we passed a chateau flying the St Andrews cross, Merindol les Oliviers and back to Faucon. 30K and 500m climbing in 1:30.DSCF2022

The bikes passed the test and were put away for the day while we showered had a walk around the town and eventually all went out for food.
When we arrived back Craig broke the news that we had a 0600 rise with a 0700 start and explained the logistics of the challenge.
The room was buzzing with the news and we all headed off to try and get an early night.
