Friday 17th October- the day started well , up on time, breakfast, SS and S and a walk to the station for the train to Edinburgh. I arrived in Edinburgh and the KX train was ready to board. Then the announcements started. First a delay to departure then the 09:30 train became the 1000 with the resultant overcrowding. The next announcement informed us that as no electric services were heading down the East coast we would have to move to the 1030 diesel service! Cattle truck doesn’t begin to describe it. I Arrd in KX over 3 hours late which meant that my planned visit to the Imperial War Museum had to be abandoned.
On the way out the station staff were handing out forms so the fare could be reclaimed. We’ll see how long it takes to arrive.
I headed to Acton and the B n B I had booked due mainly to its proximity to Paddington my station of departure tomorrow. At £35 I wasn’t expecting much and didn’t get it- no internet no towels no tea making facilities no headboard and only one station on the TV! The only bright patch in an otherwise terrible day-a call from Muff.
Now time for sleep another early rise tomorrow heading for St Austell via Plymouth.
